MelonDistrict tendrá el honor de recibir a los participantes de próximo Festival Internacional de Música y Danza de Poble Sec que se realizará del 15 al 21 de julio del 2008 en distintas ubicaciones del barrio de Poble Sec.

Este festival busca mostrar las tradiciones ancestrales y seculares, musicales y danzadas, que identifican el sentimiento y la idiosincrasia de los pueblos del mundo. Es un festival dirigido a todas aquellas agrupaciones folklóricas que practican la danza tradicional de su país o región de origen.

2nd International Festival of Traditional Music and Dance in the Poble Sec neighborhood

MelonDistrict will have the honor of welcoming the participants of this year’s International Festival of of Traditional Music and Dance in the Poble Sec neighborhood that will take place from the 15th to the 21th of July at various locations in Poble Sec.

This festival represents ancient and secular traditions through music and dance by identifying the feelings and characteristics of different cultures throughout the world. This festival is celebrated by all folk groups who are experts at dancing their country or region’s traditional dance.

At the end of May in Washington, DC (USA), NAFSA (Association of International Educators) held its annual conference where all higher education executives throughout the world come together to meet. It’s main goal is to form global networks, primarily in the field of higher education, and MelonDistrict was present in order to be aware of new trends so as constantly improve the accommodation services we provide. MelonDistrict is an active member of NAFSA and is constantly trying to make ties with other members. We’ll be waiting anxiously for the next NAFSA conference in Los Angeles, California in 2009 (www.nafsa.org).

MelonDistrict presente en NAFSA 2008

NAFSA (Association of International Educators) como cada año llevó a cabo a finales de mayo en la ciudad de Washington D.C. su conferencia anual en donde reúne a profesionales de la educación de todo el mundo. Su objetivo principal es crear redes de intercambio global, mayoritariamente en la educación universitaria, y MelonDistrict estuvo presente nuevamente al ser una empresa preocupada por complementar esta experiencia con un servicio de alojamiento de calidad.

MelonDistrict es un miembro activo de NAFSA y continuamente crea colaboraciones con sus otros miembros.

The climbing session included:

- Introduction to climbing
- Practicing with various walls
- Friendly competitions

At the end of the session, the winners included Octavio Aburto, who stole first place. Congratulations Octavio!

MelonDistrict invitó a sus estudiantes a pasar una divertida tarde de escalada en la sala Climbat Barcelona (www.climbat.com) el pasado mes de Abril.

La sesión incluyó:

- Introducción a la escalada
- Práctica de varias rutas
- Competición amistosa

Al final de la sesión hubo reconocimiento a quienes quedarón a la cabeza en la tabla de puntuaciones. Felicidades a Octavio Aburto por ocupar la primera posición.

On April 17th, our MelonDistrict residents celebrated the end of their stay in Barcelona at Ebano Lounge to bid farewell to Barcelona, primarily our American students. MelonDistrict would like to wish them all luck and a nice trip back home.

El equipo de MelonDistrict, siempre interesado en conocer las tendencias en el alojamiento para jóvenes, estuvo presente en el pasado encuentro organizado por el European Hostel Cooperation (EHC). En esta séptima edición tuvo como sede Barcelona durante los días 2 y 3 de Marzo.

La responsabilidad medioambiental, las nuevas tecnologías y la web 2.0 fueron algunos de los temas discutidos en el encuentro mediante las conferencias, talleres y espacios para el networking. Esperaremos las nuevas temáticas que abordarán en el 2009 para mantenernos actualizados.

MelonDistrict attends the “7TH EUROPEAN HOSTEL MEETING”

Because the MelonDistrict Team is always interested in finding out the latest developments and trends in accommodation for young travelers, we attended the “7TH EUROPEAN HOSTEL MEETING” organized by the European Hostel Cooperation (EHC). Already in it’s 7th year, Barcelona was the city venue of choice on the 2nd and 3rd of March.

Some of the issues discussed at the conference, workshops, and networking areas were environmental conservation, new technology, and the web 2.0 trend. We await the new topics that will be addressed in 2009, to keep us updated.

Con motivo del día de San Valentín, el pasado 14 de Febrero los residentes de MelonDistrict se dieron cita en el Ebano Lounge, ubicado frente a la residencia en Av. Parallel 124 Bis, donde pasaron un agradable momento y tuvieron la oportunidad de conocerse mejor entre ellos.

Como parte de la noche y por cortesía de MelonDistrict, se efectuó una rifa entre los asistentes de 2 Certificados de Regalo de la empresa partner “Masajes a Mil”.

On February 14th, MelonDistrict residents celebrated Valentine’s Day at Ebano Lounge, located in front of the residence on 124 Bis Parallel Ave. A good time was had by all and it was a good chance to get to know everyone better.

Part of the festivities for those residents who attended included a raffle for 2 “Masajes a Mil” gift certificates (a partner company), courtesy of MelonDistrict.

Para disfrutar de las fiestas de Carnaval, el pasado 5 de Febrero MelonDistrict llevó a sus residentes al ya famoso Cierre de Carnaval en Sitges.

Nuestros estudiantes mostraron su creatividad a través de sus disfraces y celebraron en las calles de Sitges de está divertida fiesta.

Desde hace más de 100 años Sitges celebra las fiestas de carnaval y a partir de este año MelonDistrict comparte con sus estudiantes esta recreativa tradición.

A night at the Sitges Carnival

On February 5th, MelonDistrict took its residents to the famous closing night of the Sitges Carnival.

In order to properly celebrate Carnival, our residents took the opportunity to express their creativity through costumes.

Sitges has been celebrating Carnival for more than 100 years, and this year, MelonDistrict shared this creative tradition with its residents as well.
