Hemos colocado un pequeño “puesto de castañas” para enseñar a nuestros residentes y huéspedes la famosa tradición catalana de “La Castañada”.

Esta costumbre de comer castañas, además de acompañarlas con panellets, boniatos y fruta confitada, viene del hecho que durante la noche del Todos los Santos, se tocaban las campanas de todas las parroquias para recordar a los vecinos la necesidad de rezar por los difuntos. Como era una tarea muy cansada, se consumían estos alimentos para recuperarse del esfuerzo.

Enjoy the traditional “Castañada” at Melon District

We have put a little corner of chestnuts for showing our residents and guests the famous Catalan tradition of “La Castañada” (chestnuts day)

This tradition of eating chestnuts, also accompanied by panellets, boniatos and candied fruit, comes from the fact that during the night of All Saints, the bells of every parish were rang to remind the neighbors the necessity of praying for the death people. Since it was a hard task, these foods were consumed to recover from the effort.
