En el post anterior hablamos un poco de las tradiciones catalanas, para las fechas navideñas. Así que en éste nuevo post continuaremos con las tradiciones de nochevieja celebradas en España y más especifico en Barcelona.

La tradición más típica y más conocida para nochevieja en España, es la de comerse doce uvas de la suerte y brindar con cava tras las doce campanadas. Se dice que quien no coma las 12 uvas antes de que terminen las campanadas tendrá un año de mala suerte.

Después de esto la celebración de año nuevo en Barcelona continúa con una variedad de propuestas para gente de todas las edades y todos los gustos, solo es cuestión de decidir donde queréis celebrarlo. Por ejemplo, cada año hay una macro-fiesta muy popular en el Poble Espanyol en Montjuic, donde cada año se reunen cerca de 3.000 personas para disfrutar de la música y el buen ambiente. In the previous post we have talked a bit of Catalan traditions for the Christmas season. So in this new post we’ll continue with the New Years Eve traditions held in Barcelona and Spain in general.

One of the New Year’s Eve typical traditions in Spain is to eat twelve grapes of good luck and toast with champagne after the clock strikes twelve. It’s known that those who don’t eat the 12 grapes before the end of the last bell stroke will have a year of bad luck.

Once everyone has eaten the 12 grapes and had made the toast; It’s time to continue the celebration and for that Barcelona has a variety of options for people of all ages and all tastes, it’s just necessary to decide where you want to celebrate.

El domingo pasado 27 de noviembre, tuvimos el último torneo de fútbol sala de éste año, organizado para los residentes de Melon District.

Los equipos inscritos se mostraron siempre muy competitivos y entusiastas durante todo el torneo, y a pesar de que todos hicieron un gran esfuerzo, solo se podía premiar al equipo vencedor: “CSKA (se seca) LA ROPA”; quienes se llevaron un pequeño premio por parte de Melon District.

Además hubo otro premio para el jugador más valioso del torneo: Rene Revilla, quien ganó un pase para el próximo Karting organizado por Melon District.

En cada evento organizado por Melon District lo más importante es que todos la pasen genial, y ésta vez no fue una excepción ya que todos disfrutaron del torneo y de una mañana de domingo bastante activa. Y para que no se quedaran sin energía durante el torneo, los chicos recibieron un desayuno por parte del Melon Café.

Para concluir con el evento hicimos el sorteo de una semana gratis en el Gimnasio de Nova Icaria; y el afortunado ganador fue: Lukas Keider.

Last Sunday November 27th, we had the soccer tournament organized for the Melon District residents.

The registered teams shown always very competitive during the tournament; and despite they all played very well we could only reward the team that beat them all: CSKA clothes! with a little prize from Melon District.

In addition we also rewarded the most valuable player of the tournament: Rene Revilla with a pass free for the Karting organized by Melon District.

As in every event organized by Melon District the most important thing is that everyone has a great time, so this one wasn’t an exception. Everyone enjoyed the tournament and had a very dynamic Sunday morning.
The guys also received a breakfast from Melon Café so they all have enough energy to keep playing.

And to conclude the event we also raffle a free week at the Gym of Nova Icaria; and the lucky winner was Lukas Keidar.

Algunos de los residentes de Melon District estuvieron en el partido del Barça vs Zaragoza que se llevo a cabo el sábado 19 de noviembre en el Camp Nou.

El partido fue ganado por la gran selección que conforma el FC Barcelona quedando 4 goles a 0 a favor.
Los goles marcados por Piqué, Messi, Puyol y Villa hicieron de este partido una gran experiencia para todos los residentes que querían vivir de cerca el verdadero ambiente del Fútbol Club Barcelona.

Some of the residents of Melon District went to the football match Barcelona vs Zaragoza of last Saturday 19th December at the Camp Nou.

The game was won by the great team FC Barcelona leaving the final score 4-0.
Thanks to the goals of Piqué, Messi, Puyol and Villa the guys lived a great experience with the ambience of the big FC Barcelona fans.

En éste primer post queremos hablar un poco acerca de las costumbres y tradiciones que existen en España y en especial en Cataluña durante las fechas navideñas.
Algunas de las preguntas que seguro te vienen a la mente cuando piensas en pasar navidad en Barcelona son: ¿Qué hay en Barcelona para Navidad? , ¿Qué costumbres existen aquí para esta fecha?

Bueno pues en Barcelona existen costumbres únicas para estas fechas. Por ejemplo; has oído hablar alguna vez del “caganer” en los belenes catalanes o del “tió de nadal”?

El “caganer” es una figura típica en los pesebres catalanes y la tradición viene de muchos años atrás cuando los campesinos la utilizaban como símbolo para representar la fertilidad en el campo. Hoy en día el significado original se ha perdido, sin embargo ahora existen versiones del “caganer” con distintas caras de personajes famosos (sin el propósito de llegar a ser ofensivos).
Por otro lado está el “tió” o “caga tió”, es otra de las tradiciones catalanas que despierta mucho interés en el público en general. El “Tió” es un tronco con nariz, ojos, boca y patas que está ligeramente cubierto con una manta y se alimenta cada día hasta la víspera de Navidad, cuando el “tió” supuestamente “caga” pequeños regalos para los niños.

In this first post we would like to explain you about the traditions that exist in Spain and specially in Cataluña during the Christmas season.

Some of the questions that it might come to your mind when you think to spend Christmas holidays in Barcelona are: What’s on Barcelona for Christmas? , ¿Which traditions exist here these holiday?
Well you should know that Barcelona has unique traditions for these dates. For example, have you ever heard about the “caganer” (Catalan for “shitter”) or what about the “Tió de nadal”? (”shitting log”)

The “caganer” is a typical figure in Catalan nativity scenes and the tradition comes from many years ago when farmers used it as a symbol for field’s fertility. Today, the original meaning has been lost, but now there are so many versions with different faces of “caganer” celebrities (without intending to become offensive).

Another Catalan tradition is the “Tió” or “Caga Tió” which arouses curiosity in all people. It is a log with nose, eyes, mouth and legs legs that is lightly covered with a red blanket and fed every day until Christmas Eve, when it “shit” small presents for the children.
