The parades, or better known as “Ruas” are a true example of artistic creativity. ¿Zombies en las calles? Pues si, esto es lo que te podrás encontrar en Sitges durante el Festival de Cine Fantástico del 4 al 14 de Octubre.

Este festival se lleva a cabo desde hace 45 años y es una de las celebraciones más esperadas por los habitantes. Durante las dos semanas que dura el festival, todo el pueblo participa de alguna manera; los negocios por ejemplo como son restaurantes, y locales en general, decoran sus escaparates con objetos y dibujos fuera de este mundo: miembros amputados, dibujos gores, en fin decoraciones acordes al festival.

Uno de los eventos más esperados de éste festival es el Zombie Walk el día 12 de Octubre, donde una procesión de muertos vivientes de todas las edades recorre todo el casco antiguo de Sitges. Para que todos puedan participar en este evento los organizadores tienen previsto un servicio gratuito de maquillaje que funcionará desde el mediodía hasta una hora antes del desfile.

Si estás en Barcelona aprovecha para darte una vuelta por Sitges y conocer este festival, que además de disfrutar de las proyecciones de cine podrás encontrarte con algo diferente no visto en otro sitio. Zombies in the streets? Well yes, that’s what you could find in Sitges during the Fantasy Film Festival from 4 to 14 October.

This festival has been held for 45 years and it is one of the most expected celebrations by the residents. During the two weeks of the festival, all the inhabitants are involved in some way; businesses such as restaurants and local stores decorate their shopfronts with objects and pictures out of this world: amputees, gores drawings suitable with the festival.

One of the most awaited activities of this festival is the Zombie Walk on October 12th, where a procession of the undead of all ages walks around the old town of Sitges. So in order that everyone participates in this event the organizers will offer free makeup which will work from noon till one hour before the parade.

If you’re in Barcelona don’t miss the opportunity to go to Sitges and see this festival, where besides of enjoying the film shows you can also appreciate something different that you won’t see nowhere else. El 24 de Septiembre es el día de la fiesta mayor en Barcelona, ya que es el día de la virgen de la Mercé (Merced en castellano) quien es la patrona de Barcelona.

Éste día es un gran motivo para celebrar por todas las calles y barrios de Barcelona, y como es un día tan importante para todos los barceloneses, no solo se celebra por un día sino que se extiende a cuatro días llenos de actividades. Así que del 21 al 24 de Septiembre la ciudad se llenará con más de quinientas propuestas artísticas y lúdicas llenas de fantasía e imaginación; actos de cultura tradicional y popular, artes de calle, danza y circo, conciertos de música, espectáculos de luz y las nuevas tecnologías como protagonistas.

Algunas de las costumbres más populares son el “Correfoc” (tradición popular en la que un grupo de personas disfrazadas de demonios desfilan por las calles corriendo, bailando y saltando entre fuegos artificiales), la feria de vinos de Cataluña (gran muestra por parte de bodegas catalanas donde enseñan y dejar catar sus vinos en sus stands) y el Piromusical (espectáculo de música con fuegos artificiales y luces que se lleva a cabo en Montjuïc) que es donde se da fin a estas celebraciones.

No habrá mejor fiesta que la fiesta mayor de la Mercé en Barcelona, ya que además marcan el final del verano y se recibe el comienzo del otoño.

The 24th September is a big celebration day in Barcelona, as it is the day of the Virgin Mercé which is the patron saint of Barcelona.

This day is the perfect occasion to celebrate throughout the streets and neighborhoods of Barcelona, and since it is such an important day for all the locals, not only it is celebrated for one day but it is extended to four days full of activities. So from the 21st to 24th September the city will offers more than five hundred artistic proposals full of fantasy and imagination; folklore, street arts, dance and circus, music concerts, performances with lights and new technologies as protagonists.

Some of the most popular traditions are the “Correfoc” (popular tradition in which a group of people dressed as devils parade through the streets running, dancing and jumping between fireworks), the Catalan wine fair (great wine exhibition by Catalan cellars where you can taste) and the Pyromusical (music show with fireworks and lights that takes place at Montjuïc) which is the end of these celebrations.

There is no other celebration in Barcelona better than the one of the “Mercé“, which also mark the end of the summer and receive the fall.
