The history of the company dates back to 2001, when Rent a Bedroom S.L. was founded with the clear target of becoming the leader of the Barcelona student accommodation market. Four years on, Rent a Bedroom S.L. was managing 140 rooms in the centre of Barcelona, spread across 38 apartments.
Melon District opened its first 97 rooms in a building on Barcelona’s famous Avinguda Paral·lel in September 2007.
In September 2009, Melon District opened the biggest residence in Barcelona, with 500 rooms, in the 22@ district, the largest urban redevelopment project in the city.
Following its success and the outstanding response it has received in Barcelona, Melon District will shortly be opening two new residences in Paris and Prague, as part of its expansion plan.
