What is MelonDistrict?

MelonDistrict is a new concept of accommodation for students who are looking for a place to live. It is not just somewhere you sleep or leave your things, but a living space where you will share your life experiences and your hopes and dreams with lots of students from many different places and cultures.

Who can use the MelonDistrict service?

Mostly students, interns, teachers or researchers who come to Barcelona for a while, as well as young people visiting the city for a few days.

What is a MelonFlat?

Rooms are grouped into MelonFlats. Each MelonFlat includes 10 rooms with en-suite bathrooms and a shared Cooking Lounge. Both MelonFlats and Studio Flats share the Meeting Lounge and the Refreshing Lounge as well as the rest of the building’s amenities.

What is the Cooking Lounge?

Each MelonFlat includes a Cooking Lounge which you share with your 10 flatmates, offering you a convenient, well-equipped multifunction space. You can cook, watch television or socialise and meet people in the chill-out area.

What is the Meeting Lounge?

This large bright space, situated in the MelonDistrict building entrances and equipped with snack and drink vending machines, offers you a place to meet and live. The reception service as well as the video surveillance service operate 24 hours a day.

What is the Refreshing Lounge?

The Refreshing Lounge is available to you on the MelonDistrict top floor. It incorporates a sun lounge, showers and a swimming-pool. It is an unquestionably attractive open space that provides an enjoyable environment in which to socialise, relax and enjoy open-air social activities. Thanks to Barcelona’s characteristically mild weather, the swimming-pool is open throughout the summer months.

How can I make a reservation?

If you stay more than 30 days:
To make a reservation for stays over 1 month, you can fill in the room request form right here. MelonDistrict will confirm place availability for the period you request by e-mail.

If you stay less than 30 days:
For stays under one month, you can make a reservation online via our booking office. You will be asked for a credit card number as a guarantee.

Why do room rates vary?

Room rates vary depending on the duration of your stay.

What is included in my monthly rent?

Wi-Fi Internet Access

The MelonDistrict buildings are equipped with a 2MB broadband wireless Internet connection for each user. That way, you can access the Internet on your own PC in your room, in the Cooking Lounge or in the Meeting Lounge. This service is included in your room rate.


Water and Electricity

Water and electricity supply, both in your room and in your designated Cooking Lounge, are included in the room rate and therefore do not entail any additional cost for you.

In this respect, it is important to note that MelonDistrict considers itself an environmentally-committed company. As a result, we encourage energy saving practices and we ask for the cooperation of all our residents in responsible utilities consumption.

Daily Cleaning of Common Areas

The daily cleaning of common areas is carried out once a day and is included in the room rate. Residents are responsible for cleaning kitchen utensils and for tidying up common areas.

Maintenance Service

MelonDistrict looks after regular facility maintenance and ensures that they are kept in good working order. Should an incident occur, we would be grateful if you would inform us so that we are able to attend to it as quickly as possible.


What is registration?

Stays of over one month require the payment of a registration fee, which varies according to the full stay duration. This is a one-off fee for each stay which covers management and registration expenses.

What is the security deposit?

The security deposit equals one month’s room rent. Under no circumstances will the deposit cover the last month's rent

How can I pay to make my reservation final?

If you stay more than 30 days:
a) By bank transfer

The bank transfer confirmation receipt must be faxed to MelonDistrict (+34 93 416 0845). All bank commissions are to be borne by the instructing party.

Upon reception of the transfer, MelonDistrict will send the instructing party a firm reservation confirmation.

b) By credit card:


The instructing party shall fax MelonDistrict® a signed authorisation document, indicating their credit card number with its expiry date and the amount to charge.

If you stay less than 30 days:
For stays under one month, you can make a reservation online via our booking office. You will be asked for a credit card number as a guarantee.


What happens if my booking has been confirmed and I need to cancel it?

Cancellations made at least 2 (two) months prior to the student’s arrival date:
The first rent instalment and the payment of additional services, in the event that they have been contracted, will be refunded.
The registration fee will not be refunded.

Cancellations made within the 2 (two) months prior to the student’s arrival date:

The amounts paid for additional services contracted will be refunded.
The registration fee and the first month’s rent will not be refunded.

In both cases, the security deposit will be returned, in the event that it has been paid in.

In the event of early cancellation once the stay has begun, the resident will be required to give notice to MelonDistrict and present an official letter from his/her school, university or company, certifying that his/her course or company placement is to end earlier than anticipated.
This notice must be given at least 2 (two) months prior to the final cancellation date.

What type of rooms can I choose from MelonDistrict?

There are 4 types of rooms:


  • Single room with a double bed

  • Twin room with two individual beds
  • Studio single

  • Studio twin

    • The studios have their own en suite private kitchen


Are there any rules I must comply with during my stay?

Before your stay begins you must sign the contract which specifies the rules and regulations you must comply with at all times. You can download this document right here: Contract Model (pdf)

Is the bathroom inside the room?

Yes, all the rooms at the MelonDistrict residence have their own en suite private bathroom

What are the extra services that I can get at MelonDistrict?

You have the possibility to get several Packages:


  • The Bedroom Package (sheets & pillow cover)

  • The Bathroom Package (bath towel, hand towel & bath carpet)

  • The kitchen Package (place setting, bowl, saucepan, frying pan & strainer)


& Services:

  • The weekly cleaning service of the room

  • The weekly cleaning service of the room & weekly cleaning service of bed linens and towels
    If you wish to get this service, there will be no need to buy the Bedroom and the Bathroom packages

  • Check-out cleaning service

  • Catering service

  • Safe deposit box

  • Storage service

  • Car parking

  • Motorcycle and bicycle parking


What to do if i want to leave before the end of the contract?

After the contract starting date, you have the obligation to advise MelonDistrict with an official letter from your University or internship company that the course will end before the forecasted date.

You have to present this letter with a two months prior notice

Can I receive mail at the residence?

Of course. The Front office will take care of the reception of your mails

Is there any application deadline for 2008-2009?

No, there are no application deadlines as long as there is availability, you can make a reservation

What is the type of the plug model in the room?

It is the European standard model (220V)
Non continental residents might need an adapter.

How to reach the residence from the airport?

You can see it in Location section.

What are the benefits of being member of the MelonDistrict residence?

Being part of MelonDistrict is much more than just renting a room.
You will benefit from many special discounts on services provided by our associated companies (Fitness clubs, motorcycle and bicycle hire, bars & night clubs, excursions, etc)

To take advantage of them all you need to do is show your room card key which identifies you as a MelonDistrict community member.

What documents do I need to do my check-in?

Your ID and/or Passport and 2 copies of the contract that will be sent to you a couple of weeks before your arrival date

How long can I stay at the MelonDistrict residence?

You can choose between several types of stays according to your needs:

  • The Long Stay is more than 8 months.

  • The Medium Stay is from 1 to 8 months.

  • The Short Stay is less than 1 month.


Can a friend come to visit me and stay the night over in my room?

Yes, you can accommodate a friend with a maximum of one week in a row.
This service costs 19 € /night *
