Catalan cuisine combines the finest of surf and turf, i.e. seafood and mountain produce, thanks to its proximity to the Mediterranean and the Pyrenees. The most commonly used ingredients in Catalan dishes are olive oil, garlic, vegetables, various types of mushrooms, nuts, fresh fish & shellfish and rice, often accompanied by sauces like allioli and romesco.
Barcelona is the perfect place to sample a wide variety of traditional and regional dishes, as well as international cuisine. An ever-present is the famous pa amb tomàquet (bread brushed with olive oil and tomato), a typical Catalan starter that can be eaten on its own and accompanied by cheese or sausage.
