Metro:
Public transport in Barcelona is very inexpensive. Its extensive network with many services and ticket types adapted to the city’s residents’ needs. In addition to modern trains and engines, the Metro network's facilities are generally well-signposted, modern and intended for the comfort of travellers.
Multi-trip cards can be purchased in Metro station lobbies or from tobacconists', among others. Multi-trip cards represent significant savings on a single ticket fare, which is already inexpensive itself.
Should you require further information on travel cards, fares, transport zones, maps, timetables or any other kind of information on city transport, we recommend that you visit the following website: www.tmb.net
Train:
Another means of transport is the train, which provides a satisfactory service. It is practical and its lines cover the city surroundings and the coast. The two main train stations are Estación de Sants and Plaza Cataluña. Some city stations, such as Plaza España, Paseo de Gracia and Arc de Triomf, connect with the Metro and Ferrocarril.
Buses:
Barcelona has a wide network of city and intercity buses. They can be travelled on with the same transport card as that used for the Metro.
A night bus service called "Nit Bus" runs from the main bus stations. Although each line has a different timetable, they usually operate from 11pm to 5.30am, approximately. Nit Bus timetables and routes can be found on: www.tmb.net.
Intercity buses can take you to national and international destinations at very reasonable prices. The two main intercity bus stations are Estación del Norte and Estación de Sants.
Taxis:
Barcelona taxis are easily identified thanks to their unmistakable black and yellow colour combination. You know that a taxi is available when its green top light is on. In order to get a taxi to stop, we recommend that you stand on the pavement corresponding to the direction you are travelling to, preferably on a street corner, and hail the driver with your arms. Taxis usually respond by flashing their headlights or by turning on their warning lights to show that they have seen you.
